Ray Cheah started frying chicken in the early 1970’s and introduced Luton to American style fried chicken however Ray quickly learned that he could do it better and Chicken George was born in 1985!

During the years that followed Chicken George quickly became the best and most popular chicken shop in town offering hand breaded, buttermilk fried chicken, sticky bbq ribs and more.

Chicken George continued to lead the way in the fried chicken game locally but when Ray handed the business to his son Chris in 2015 the company began to be recognised nationally.

Chris Cheah is a highly skilled and trained chef who has worked in some of the UK’s best restaurants and alongside some of the top chefs in the industry. Chris has transferred those skills to the fried chicken game to continue his dad’s legacy and join the family wing slinging business.

During Chris’s first year Chicken George won the Best Takeaway in the South East at the Just Eat awards and this was followed by the Best Takeaway in the East and UK in 2016 beating over 35,000 other takeaways in the process!

2017 saw Chicken George awarded the Game Changer award by Just Eat, this is an award created for just for us as we were setting new standards in the fried chicken game!

Chris has continued to smash the takeaway game and has now taken over the wing scene by winning awards at Wingjam in Peckham and was named the UK’s best buffalo wing at Wingfest (Europe’s biggest wing festival) in 2019 after winning the people’s vote for his collaboration wing with The Ribman of London.
